Founder Spotlight: Ranah Chavoshi (PhyCo Technologies)
Meet Ranah Chavoshi, Co-Founding CEO of PhyCo Technologies—a marine biotech company on a mission to replace petroleum plastics with compostable, seaweed-based alternatives.
An alum of the Ocean Startup Project Accelerator Program, Ranah is turning ocean science into scalable climate solutions. PhyCo develops biodegradable, non-toxic bioplastics made from seaweed, including water-tight, durable, opaque films for agricultural use that break down naturally—helping farmers reduce plastic waste while protecting the planet.
Working in partnership with Indigenous Nations in British Columbia, PhyCo is cultivating seaweed to create solutions that reduce plastic pollution, support local communities, and help restore ecosystems. With Ranah’s background in aquatic toxicology and phycology, she’s proving how ocean innovation can transform industries far beyond the shoreline.
We need biodegradable alternatives that do not persist in our oceans.
“The wonderful thing is when you're trying to find a solution to make the world a better place, there are a lot of people who want to see you succeed. And so anyone who has been interested in what I've done shares the values and the intentions that I have as I build this and continue to work in the field of biology.”
